Why Personalized Gifts are a Great Gift Giving Choice

There are some kinds of gifts which seem to never go out of style. They are as popular today as they have been for years. If you think about why personalized gifts are in this category, you will know why they are a great gift giving choice!

One reason why personalized gifts are a popular gift choice is because they are very practical. You can find several items that are in need and used daily such as a tote, towel, bath wrap, and more. Other items are used occasionally such as jewelry, umbrellas, beach towels, cutting board, etc. But no matter the degree of use, once personalized with a name or initials it transforms into a unique special item!

Another reason personalized gifts are a great gift giving choice is because they look expensive and the recipient things you went out of your way to find a gift that is custom made for them. However, with the increase of online stores, one can find personalized gifts for everyone on their list with just a few clicks of a mouse! An addition, personalized gifts are a great gift giving choice is because they are treasured items! Popular Perfect Couple's Gift

Engagement parties, weddings, anniversary parties…what type of gifts are you giving the “happy couple”?

With so many special occasions coming up in the next few months a good question to ask is “what type of gift should I give the “Happy Couple”. Often a couple will receive the same ordinary gift again and again: a nice bottle of wine, maybe a gift card to their favorite restaurant, or candles. It is very difficult to get a unique or special gift that they will BOTH like. Often people resort to getting a couple's gift that they know at least one of them will like. The best intentions are there, however lack of ideas and money prevent the gift giver to be able to get the perfect couple's gift.

One solution is to buy a Personalized Gift for the Couple. You may ask, what could I possible get that BOTH people will like? How about Personalized Pillow Cases? Or Better yet, personalized coolers for when they go camping or to an outdoor event. The perfect choice would be personalized wine glasses or beer mugs with their last name initial engraved.

There really is no limit to the ideas for a couple’s gift once you decide that by personalizing your gift with either their name, monogram, or initial…it will be perfect! You can purchase these gifts and more at The Initials Shop, providing personalized gifts, initials gifts, and monogram gifts for engagement gifts, anniversary gifts, wedding gifts, and couple's gifts!

Don’t Know What to Give Someone For Their Birthday? Why Not a Personalized Print

I am often asked for gift ideas since I own a  Gift Shop and have seen what people like to buy for others and what gifts are hot. Many people who ask me say that the recipient has everything or they don’t know this person that well so don’t have a clue what to get them but want to get them something special that they will appreciate. It’s easier to pick out a gift when you know the person very well and know what their interests and hobbies are and you can give a gift along those lines. But what if you need a gift for someone you don’t know well enough or they don’t have any hobbies or favorite things? This becomes an even harder chore for the gift giver who is stressing about what to give that person.

My answer to these questions is to give a
Personalized Print with their name on it! This is a fantastic gift because you know they will love to see their name on a design and feel special. Personalized Prints are just a cool gift and it looks like you really put some thought and care in choosing the perfect gift. There are many creative designs to choose from. An awesome design is the name spelled out with an airplane over the ocean, or flamingos bending to spell out the name. My favorite is the name carved in the sand. For the person that likes nature there is a print with their name spelled out in blossom petals in the wind. For the snowboarder, there is the name spelled out in the clouds.

Now in case you do know the person well and know that they Love Las Vegas, there is a personalized print with their name on the Las Vegas sign. Do you have a friend who always wanted to see their name in lights? If so then get them the Personalized Marque Theater Lights sign and they will absolutely love it!

Personalized Prints are a great Birthday Present for anyone since there are so many designs to choose from. It will look like you put a lot of thought and care in picking out the perfect gift to personalize it for them. Next time your friend’s birthday rolls around and you are stressing about what to get them, you really can’t go wrong if you choose a personalized print from The Initials Shop.

Birthday Gift Ideas for a Guy you Just Met!

Has this ever happened to you, you meet a guy go out on a few dates, and find out that his birthday is in a few day? At this point you do not know your relationship status. Do you get him a gift to be nice to celebrate his special day or would that seem like your jumping the gun a little bit? If you don’t get him a gift will that make you seem uncaring or worse not interested?

Here is my advice if you ever find yourself in this situation:
  • DON’T get him an extravagant gift that costs a lot of money. If you set the bar this high in the beginning you will be stressed ever year if this relationship works out and you have to try and out do yourself again and again.
  • DON’T buy a gift that he can read into and think you’re a stalker like his and her engraved rings
  • DON’T buy him a gift that says anything about LOVE like a Stuffed Animal holding a big “I love you” Heart. That is a sure fire way to scare him off unless your relationship is at that point
  • DON’T buy him a gift that’s too impersonal that shows you didn’t put any thought into it
  • DON’T make him a CD with your favorite Love Songs- again unless your relationship is at that level that will scare him off fast
  • DO buy him something to show that you care and want to celebrate his special day
  • DO put some thought into the gift to try and make a good impression
I have found that a personalized gift is a nice touch for anyone finding themselves in this situation. What man would not like a Personalized Beer Mug or Shot Glass? A personalized gift shows that you put some thought and effort into the gift. Another gift idea for him would be a personalized cooler. Just a plain cooler would look like you ran to the nearest convenient store on your way out to meet him, but a personalized cooler shows that you actually took some time finding the perfect gift. My favorite gift for a guy is a personalized key chain. A nice Leather key chain with his initial on it is such a classy looking gift.

You can find all these items and more at The Initials Shop. They have personalized beer mug, shot glasses with initials engraved, personalized cooler bags, personalized leather key chains and more. If you still need more gift ideas, go to Gifts for Him category and look around. Guarantee you will find a great personalized gift!

Monogram Necklace

Monograms are motifs made by combining or overlapping two or more letters in order to form a singular symbol. There are several different Fonts that can be used such as Traditional Monogram which the Last Name Initial is slightly bigger than the initials on the left and right or Circle Monogram which the letters all curve and form a circle.

Monograms were first used on coins in days as early as 350BC. In more modern days and contemporary settings, monograms are still being used on pieces of art, like monogram necklaces.  A monogram necklace is a work of art because a lot goes into the design and construction of a piece.

Monogram necklaces are made from different materials, although most will be made out of metals like silver and gold. In the last few years, the increasingly popular choice of material for these pendants are wood..
The Initials Shop has many choices for wood monogram jewelry whether it is carved from cheery wood or walnut. Also, a more intricate piece has silver over wood which is more durable.   You can go online and see which material you like to wear and fits your personality at their online store.  Whichever you choose, a monogram necklace truly is a work of art tailored just for you!

Personalized Gifts are The Best

Gift Giving can be very stressful. Sometimes you have to buy for someone who is picky or has everything. My favorite is trying to buy a gift for someone who gives you no ideas of what they want and says "surprise me". Well I could "surprise" them but the surprise could be something they really hate!

Through the years I have found a better way of giving gifts. I now give
Personalized Gifts. It really doesn't matter what the item I choose as long as it has that person's name or initial on it they are impressed and love it! With all the new stores online and new products introduced you can find something for anyone. Of Couse giving a personalized gift shows you went out of your way to make the gift extra special for that person.

When I go to a party and want to give a Hostess Gift, I choose either
Personalized Barware or Monogrammed Kitchen Linens! Another Gift Idea is when I have a friend who is having a Housewarming Party. Everyone that I give a Personalized Gift has told me that was their favorite gift! I usually choose Monogrammed Bath Towels that they can use to decorate their guest bathroom. Another favorite gift for a housewarming party is a Personalized Blanket. Everyone I've given a Personalized Blanket to have loved it!

One of my favorite gifts to give is
Personalized Bags. You can never go wrong with this gift. It has made the perfect Teacher Gift, Birthday Gift, or Just Because Gift. These aren't just any ordinary bags! When they are Personalized with the person’s name, monogram, or initial it just adds so much character to a simple bag.

Next time you are in the need for that Perfect Gift, give a Personalized Gift and you will never go wrong! Check out
The Initials Shop for ideas on Personalized Gifts, Monogram Gifts, and Initials Gifts

Anniversary Gift Symbols

Ahh Spring and Summer are upon us! The sun is shining, birds are chirping, and the flowers are budding. It’s also anniversary and wedding gift shopping season, because every couple I’ve ever known had a wedding in the most popular months to do so; May and June!

Celebrating an anniversary milestone is always special! I found a book that listed the traditional gifts for a particular anniversary year, and then the “modern” gift version. To tell you the truth, neither really seem like something I would want to receive! Case in point; this year I would receive Wood and Silverware! Just send me the cash or jewelry instead! HaHa. Listed below are the traditional gift ideas along with their more modern counterpart:

1st Wedding Anniversary: Traditional Gifts: Paper, Modern Gifts: Clocks
2nd Wedding Anniversary: Traditional Gifts: Cotton, Modern Gifts: China
 3rd Wedding Anniversary: Traditional Gifts:
Leather, Modern Gifts: Crystal
4th Wedding Anniversary: Traditional Gifts: Fruit or Flowers, Modern Gifts: Appliances
 5th Wedding Anniversary: Traditional Gifts:
Wood , Modern Gifts: Silverware
6th Wedding Anniversary: Traditional Gifts: Candy or Iron, Modern Gifts:
Wood
7th Wedding Anniversary: Traditional Gifts: Wool or
Copper, Modern Gifts: Desk Sets
8th Wedding Anniversary: Traditional Gifts: Bronze or Pottery, Modern Gifts:
Linens or Lace
9th Wedding Anniversary : Traditional Gifts: Pottery and Willow, Modern Gifts: Leather
10th Wedding Anniversary: Traditional Gifts: Tin or Aluminum, Modern Gifts: Diamond Jewelry

I'm not sure if I agree with some of the modern ideas. I would prefer something a little more personal. Be sure to celebrate each milestone for they are truly a treasure. For more anniversaries ideas

My Favorite Artwork!

The love of Art is truly subjective! However, who wouldn’t like their name with their Loved one carved in the sand?

I didn’t know what to get my husband for his Birthday since it was only one week after Christmas and I used up all my good gift ideas.  I struggled trying to find the perfect gift.  He really didn’t need another tie or golf balls.  I wanted to buy something special for him to show how much I loved him.  We love going to the beach in the summer and our favorite vacation spot is Siesta Key, FL.  As my kids are off building sand castles, my husband and I sit and take in the sun and just relax.  I few times I’ve etched my lunch order or some cute saying in the sand for him next to his lounge chair.  He smiles and gets a chuckle.

I saw this print and just LOVED IT! What a great way to capture our love of the beach and our treasured memories there than our names etched in the sand.  Perfect!  I couldn’t wait to give him his Birthday gift.  As I thought, he loved it.  What made it even more special was that it was Art created just for him.  I did good this year but now have to start thinking of ideas to top myself for next year!

If you are at a loss for a unique gift idea, visit www.initialsshop.com.  They have so many wonderful personalized gifts for everyone on your list!

Keep Calm and Monogram On

I love all the new ways people are changing the old saying "Keep Calm Carry On" but I have to say I like this version the best!  Where did that saying come from anyway?

I looked it up and found from Wikipedia- Keep Calm and Carry On was a propaganda poster produced by the British government in 1939 during the beginning of the Second World War, intended to raise the morale of the British public in the event of invasion. Seeing only limited distribution, it was little known. The poster was rediscovered in 2000 and has been re-issued by a number of private sector companies, and used as the decorative theme for a range of other products.

Now I'm not sure who came up with "Keep Calm and Monogram On" but I'd like to thank them!

Do You Know How to Pack a Cooler?

I've been packing coolers for years and never knew this great trick!  This is such a cool technique I thought I would pass it along.

How to chill your drinks in minutes:

1.. Fill 1/4 of your cooler/container (party tub) with ice.
2. Fill with 1/4 more of water
3. Pour a handful of salt into the ice and water mixture.
4 Place your closed bottles or cans of beer in ice, water, and salt mixture and stir gently.

In approximately 5 minutes your cans and bottle should be ice cold and ready to drink!

Selecting the Best Monogram

One of the most important decisions in buying a monogrammed gift is selecting the monogram style and order of the initials. Here are a few general guidelines for monogramming to make it easier for you:

For a Married Couple:
The monogram will contain the bride's first initial, the surname of the couple, and the groom's first initial, in that order. For instance Rebecca and Andrew White would be:

The monogram style should be chosen to complement the taste of the couple and the item you are monogramming....traditional, modern, ecclectic, whimsical and so on.  Tradition dicates that a woman's maiden initials are always appropriate to use, even after she is married. However, it is more common to use a woman's first, maiden, and married surname initials once she is wed. For instance, if Jessica married Anthony Dalton, her new monogram would be:

Monogramming Gifts for Children:
Children often receive monogrammed or personalized gifts when they are born and to commemorate special occasions such as birthdays and christenings. The same monogramming rules apply for children as for adults. Gifts for small children, both boys and girls traditionally follow the first, last, and middle initial order. For example, both Sarah Ann Whitney and Sean Adam Whitneys monogram would be as follows:

Monogramming a Gift for a Woman:
A monogrammed gift for a woman should include her first, middle and last initial or if she is married, her first, maiden name, and married name initials. Traditionally, a woman's monogram is presented in first, last, middle initial order. So for Jennifer Casey Pingress her monogram could be as follows:

Monogramming a Gift for a Man:

For men's gifts, it is very important to consider the shape of the item to be monogrammed when choosing the order of the initials. When monogramming something for a man, many people prefer to use the initials in the first, middle and last order. This letter format is often found on personal items such as briefcases, luggage, shirt pockets and cuffs. For these kind of items, Ben William Ross would be:

It is also correct to put a gentleman's surname initial in the middle. You might use that style on items such as cufflinks, keyrings, and glassware. for Ben that would be:

Gift Giving Q&A

1. My friend thinks it is bad manners to give away a gift someone gave me. What do you think?
For years I kept all sorts of items in my basement, never to be used.  I ran out of room.  Once I receive a gift, it belongs to me to do with as I please. I may throw it way, exchange it, and even give it away to someone else I think will enjoy and appreciate it. The only major caution is never to give the gift to someone even remotely related to the original gift giver.

2. I hate the gifts my relatives give me each year. Is it okay to ask for cash for Christmas and birthdays?
I don’t think it is appropriate to ask for cash, generally. Instead, you could make the request as it relates to something purposeful.. A relative of mine asked everyone in the family to please only give her cash gifts for all occasions, because she was saving up to buy a new car. A couple of years later, she finally got her car and then sent everyone a nice thank-you note with a photo of herself, standing in front of the car. It made me feel good to have contributed money to something that was real and meaningful.

3. I was recently invited to a wedding to which I am unable to attend. Do I still have to give a gift?
Whenever you are invited to attend a special event that has a custom of gift-giving,depending on how close you are and feel to the person and how much you want to show that you care, it is always a nice gesture to send a gift, regardless of your attending the actual event. Put yourself in the reverse position: Wouldn’t you think more fondly of a person who sends you a gift, even when that person didn’t attend your event? We all love receiving gifts.

4. I am planning to attend a wedding where the bride and groom have specifically stated they want gifts from one of their gift registries. Everything listed is way beyond what I want to spend. What should I do?
Purchase a gift card to the store at which they have registered, in an amount you feel comfortable giving. Enclose a positive message about your desire to help contribute toward a particular, higher-priced item you saw listed.

5. I’ve been invited to a friend’s house for dinner. Do I have to bring a gift?
It is always a nice gesture to bring a small hostess or house gift whenever invited to someone’s home for dinner.

6. I recently held a dinner party where several people gave me gifts. Do I have to send a thank-you note for these gifts and if I do, can I do it by email?
Guests bring house/hostess gifts as an expression of appreciation for having been invited to your home for dinner. As such, it is not as required that you send a thank-you note, as it would be for a regular gift. However, it is never wrong to send someone a nice note of appreciation (in this case even by email) especially for an extra special gift received.

7. My friend believes it’s totally tacky to give people gift cards for any reason. I don’t think so, especially when I don’t really know the person to whom I have to give a gift. What do you think?
Gift cards are now available for an ever-increasing variety of items and services, in stores and online. The main consideration is to choose a gift card that the person will enjoy using. My opionion, giving a generic Visa, MasterCard or American Express gift card is not as valued as one that is a bit more specific. If you do give a generic gift card, the amount should be larger than perhaps a more specific gift card. To me, a $10 Borders gift card appears better than a $10 Visa gift card.  Additionally, think about whether the store is a good match for the amount you choose to spend. As much as I would love a gift card to Tiffany’s, a $10 gift card may be of little or no use, since most items in that store are valued much higher. I would be required to put out my own funds just to use your $10 gift card.

Unique Jewlery Idea

I’ve always loved receiving jewelry gifts. I feel that a woman can never own too many accessories! One thing that makes jewelry a great choice is that every woman needs a nice variety of it for different occasions, outfits, and moods. Of course, a wedding ring or other sentimental piece may be worn everyday, but most women enjoy mixing it up with a variety of earrings in different sizes and shapes, fun bracelets, and unusual necklaces. From chunky and funky to dainty and feminine, you can find a piece of jewelry that will fit your recipient’s taste. The key is to look past the mass produced styles in the popular stores, and seek out the more exclusive boutiques and online shops.  I feel that jewlery that has someone's name or initials is truely unique. Instead of having the same look as all of her friends, your recipient will enjoy a piece of personalized jewelry that people notice as being unique and beautiful.  Talk about a unique jewelry gift!
